John Beilein stunned Michigan fans yesterday by jumping to the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. That leaves Michigan in a poor spot when it comes to finding a replacement coach, given how late in the hiring season it is. However, as the only major job currently open, Michigan should have the ability to land one of its top targets.
BetOnline.AG has released its initial odds for who the next coach of the Wolverines will be. Here they are in order:
Juwan Howard - 3/1
Billy Donovan - 7/2
Bobby Hurley - 5/1
Mike White - 5/1
Kevin Keatts - 7/1
Shaka Smart - 7/1
LaVall Jordan - 10/1
Luke Yaklich - 10/1
Saddi Washington - 10/1
Brad Stevens - 12/1
This list of 10 names includes several people that would be slam dunk hires, namely Stevens and Donovan. However, it also includes some head scratchers. Despite the Michigan connection, it is surprising to see Howard at the top of this list. It’s also a pleasant surprise to see Donovan’s odd so high. How would either of those hires make you feel? Let us know in the comments.
UPDATE: Bovada has now also released odds for who takes over at Michigan. Here are its odds:
Chris Beard +325
Rick Pitino +475
Juwan Howard +500
Saddi Washington +600
Luke Yaklich +600
LaVall Jordan +900
Bob McKillop +2200
Bobby Hurley +2200
Jay Wright +2200
Johnny Dawkins +2200
Kevin Keatts +2200
Porter Moser +2200
Shaka Smart +2200
Steve Wojciechowski +2200
Quite a difference between the two sets of odds. What’s your reaction?
