The Purdue Boilermakers and Michigan Wolverines have had epic battles on the basketball court for a long, long time.
The past decade has been no exception with coaches Matt Painter and John Beilein going toe to toe over 20 times.
With such familiarity programs can grow to respect one another or hate each other. When it comes to Michigan and Purdue, it looks like there’s respect between the two sides.
On Wednesday afternoon the Purdue Men’s Basketball Twitter account posted this about John Beilein:
Two of the best have gone at it over the last 12 years.

Best of luck @JohnBeilein with the Cavs. #BoilerUp pic.twitter.com/Is8bsTc5va
“Two of the best have gone at it over the last 12 years. Best of luck @JohnBeilein with the Cavs. #BoilerUp,” the tweet said.
The Michigan program appreciated the gesture:
Class. Thanks!

The numbers Purdue shared in this tweet show how competitive the Michigan-Purdue rivalry has been in basketball, with Beilein and Painter all tied up at 11 wins a piece against one another. Even points, offensive efficiency, Big Ten titles, and NCAA Tournament appearances are quite similar, the major exception being Michigan has been to the NCAA Championship twice in that time-span.
We won’t be seeing Beilein and Painter square off ever again, and Purdue going out of their way to wish Beilein the best of luck is a nice way to end this chapter of the rivalry.
Stay classy, Purdue.
