Michigan Basketball rises in AP Top 25 Poll

Getting closer to the No. 1 spot.

NCAA Basketball: Wisconsin at Michigan Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Michigan Basketball team won’t be playing for a couple weeks, but that didn’t stop them from moving up in the AP Top 25 Poll on Monday.

Michigan has moved up from No. 7 to No. 4. The only teams ahead of U-M are No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 2 Baylor, and No. 3 Villanova.

Michigan stands at 13-1 and has looked like the cream of the crop in the Big Ten to this point in the season, but the 14-day pause that they’re now faced with will challenge the groove they were in. The team cannot even practice during this time-frame.

The athletic department shut all sports activities down after multiple athletes (none on the basketball team) tested positive for the new COVID-19 B.1.1.7 variant.

Michigan’s next game is scheduled for February 11 vs. Illinois. We’ll see if Michigan can pick up right where they left off. And we’ll also see if Michigan slips in the rankings next week solely because they were idle.
