The Michigan Wolverines entered the month of March as one of the two or three most-likely teams to win a national championship, but a lot has changed in the last few weeks. The Wolverines dropped three of their last five games of the season and lost one of their best players in the process. Isaiah Livers does not appear to be likely to return for the NCAA Tournament. That has affected how this group has been perceived nationwide.
Michigan still got what appears to be a favorable draw in the East Region and may have the pieces to go on a run. Some still would not be surprised to see them in the Final Four, while others believe that they could fall victim to an upset earlier than the rest of the No. 1 seeds. The truth could still lie somewhere in the middle depending on matchups, but there is not much of a consensus on the outlook.
Several Michigan fans and Maize n Brew readers have made their picks known already via our bracket challenge, which is still open to join, free and is run through CBS Sports. Because I cannot resist myself, I put the Wolverines in the Final Four with Gonzaga, Purdue and Houston. I would have picked them to beat Gonzaga, but the Zags are loaded and the loss of Livers in a game like that would loom large.
