WATCH: Michigan football player has first-career hit with baseball team

Michigan freshman athlete Joey Velazquez is playing both football and baseball and received the first action of his college career on Saturday in the 14-2 win over UConn in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Velasquez subbed in for Clark Elliott in right field and grabbed his first hit as a Wolverine in the bottom of the eighth on a single through the right side of the infield. He is currently listed as a linebacker on the football roster and was a three-star recruit out of Columbus, Ohio.

Franz Wagner wins Big Ten Freshman of the Week

The Big Ten announced on Monday that Michigan Basketball forward Franz Wagner has won the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award. Wagner averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, two assists and one steal in the two wins over Northwestern and Indiana last week. This is his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor of the season. He last won it on Feb. 3.

Michigan center Colin Castleton has fallen out of the lineup as the year has gone on, but he did get some run on Sunday in the blowout win over Indiana. Still, he was spotted working on his shots after the game sticking around as crews at Crisler tore down and cleaned up from the contest.

So the President of Arizona State takes a dig at Harbaugh, implying he may be fired soon because "...he can't beat Ohio State." Maybe he should keep his eye on his own coaching staff... ASU hasn't even been ranked in the top 25 at the end of the last 5 seasons. Their combined record for those years is about .500 Way to give your opponent bulletin board material, Michael Crow... Baseball is not back officially until we get an #UmpShow and boy, did they ever deliver on Friday night in Michigan's 4-3 win over defending national champ Vanderbilt. True freshman Jimmy Obertop was ejected late in the contest for...swiping dirt with his bat after a called strike? It did not appear anything was said and Obertop was ejected with his back turned to the umpire. Odd, but a memorable way for his first college game to end on top of everything else.

Michigan State has found its next head football coach

Michigan State has found the successor to Mark Dantonio, hiring Colorado head coach Mel Tucker to the same position in East Lansing. Tucker publically withdrew his name from consideration last week, but it appears MSU stepped up with a significant offer he could not refuse. He went 5-7 last year in his head coaching debut with the Buffs and is a Cleveland native with ties to the region.

Two Ohio State players charged with rape and kidnapping

Ohio State players Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint have been charged with first-degree felonies of rape and kidnapping with arrest warrants issued for them on Tuesday. The Eleven Warriors story above has more of the details, but this is obviously ugly and reprehensible. OSU is aware has suspended the two players from all team activities.

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio is out, as he announced his retirement from football on Tuesday afternoon. It just so happened to be the same day more scandalous information came out from the Curtis Blackwell situation. He was paid a $4.3 million retention bonus by the program just weeks ago. L. O. L.
