The College Football Playoff's first top-25 poll of the season was announced on Tuesday night, where the Michigan Wolverines (6-2, 3-1 B1G) come in at No. 17.
The Wolverines are the highest ranked two-loss team in the first CFP poll of 2015 with its only defeats of the year coming to No. 12 Utah and No. 7 Michigan State.
While nobody was expecting Michigan to come in ranked too incredibly high in this first poll, it is important as a benchmark going forward. In a situation where Ohio State beats Michigan State and Michigan beats Ohio State, one of the tiebreaker scenarios involves who is ranked higher by the CFP selection committee. The Buckeyes debuted at No. 3 with MSU at No. 7, as stated above.
The top four of the CFP rankings are (1) Clemson, (2) LSU, (3) Ohio St. and (4) Alabama with Notre Dame and Baylor filling out the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
There is still a lot of football to be played and many of the scenarios will play themselves out on the field, so we will see what happens.
