Name: Jon Runyan Jr.
Position: Offensive Lineman
Height/Weight: 6-4, 276 pounds
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (St. Joseph's HS)
The Story
While Jon Runyan, the former New Jersey Congressman and All-Big Ten offensive tackle for Michigan, spent 14 successful years in the NFL, his son will report to preseason camp as one of three offensive linemen in the freshman class.
Runyan Jr., who verbally pledged to the Wolverines before his junior season, was one of few players from the class who didn't decommit following the release of Brady Hoke.
The three-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals.com received his first offer from Michigan and wasted little time to commit, despite garnering significant interest from schools in the Big Ten, including Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State, among others.
ESPN's Recruiting Nation scouting report:
We feel his future lies on the offensive side of the ball; possesses the athleticism needed to play the tackle position however a red shirt year will most likely be needed to mature physically while improving playing strength and technical skills.
Along with Nolan Ulizio, reiterating the report, expect Runyan Jr. to redshirt his freshman year. A couple years in the weight room and taking snaps with the second and third teams should do wonders for Runyan once he's an upperclassman.
