Michigan takes on Illinois this afternoon in Ann Arbor as they look to move to 7-0 on the season on Homecoming.
Here’s what I’ll be watching this afternoon:
Airing it Out
Illinois is likely going to stack the box and sell out to stop the run, which means Michigan’s passing game could step to the forefront today.
It will be interesting to see how the passing game has developed since the bye and if they break out a bit this afternoon. Jehu Chesson has had a quiet season, so look for him to have a huge day through the air.
Second Half Stars
The bye week gave Michigan a chance to rest and recuperate following the first six games of the year, so it was a logical break point for the team. The second season starts now and it will be worth keeping an eye on some of the young players who perhaps earned some more playing time with their efforts since the bye.
Look for players like Kekoa Crawford, Eddie McDoom and Nate Johnson to see more opportunities on offense with LaVert Hill, David Long, Tyree Kinnel and others on defense, among others.
Spread Watch
It’s another large spread for the Wolverines to cover today with it being up to 39 points. Michigan is far superior talent-wise across the board, but that is still a lot to ask but it seems every time that has been a concern this year, they have backed it up.
The cover could be in trouble with some turnovers and sustained drives from the Illini, but look for Michigan to cover another large spread this week.
