Michigan football starting left tackle Grant Newsome is out for the season with a knee injury, head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed during his Monday press conference.
Harbaugh did not speak specifically as to what the injury was, but said it is “as serious” as a knee injury that one could sustain. He did not confirm much more than that, but did allude to the fact that it could have career implications with challenging rehabilitation to come.
Newsome, a sophomore, started all five games the Wolverines have played this season after winning the job out of fall camp. The team will now look to Juwann Bushell-Beatty, who filled in for him Saturday, to hold down the left tackle spot.
Other options include left guard Ben Braden and center Mason Cole sliding over to left tackle.
