Michigan Football sits at 10-2 and even with losses in two of the last three weeks, they are still alive for the College Football Playoff sitting currently at No. 5.
The committee loves the Wolverines, but they are idle this weekend and that works against them. They need some help to sneak back into that top four and here is how you should be rooting for it to go down this weekend.
Friday
Pac-12 Championship: No. 8 Colorado vs. No. 4 Washington, 9 p.m. ET FOX
Root for: Colorado
The committee maintains that there is not much separation between the Wolverines and Huskies, so a Colorado win helps them immensely, especially considering that Michigan beat them earlier this season and that is another boost to the ‘ol resume.
Some believe that Michigan could still leap Washington if they don’t win impressively enough, but that does not seem likely at all.
Saturday
ACC Championship: No. 3 Clemson vs. No. 23 Virginia Tech, 8 p.m. ET ABC
Root for: Virginia Tech
This is another game Michigan fans should be watching closely. Clemson has struggled at times against better opponents and is not the juggernaut they have been, though they still sit at No. 3. A second loss for them throws the Wolverines right back into the mix as well.
Big Ten Championship: No. 6 Wisconsin vs. No. 7 Penn State, 8 p.m. ET FOX
Root for: Penn State
It does not seem like the committee will put either of these teams in over Michigan if the above scenarios play out and the Wolverines have an edge over both by having wins over each. The 49-10 drubbing of PSU earlier this year looks better if the Nittany Lions win in Indianapolis, though the 14-7 win over Wisconsin is not necessarily reflective of how dominant Michigan was in that game, either.
Odds and Ends
Some people have asked about Alabama, but there is no way they slip out of the top four even with a loss to Florida. Colorado would not have a claim to the playoff because of the loss to Michigan and the game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State likely does not factor in either.
Michigan fans cannot be angry if they are left out of the playoff because they had their chances to punch their ticket, but some help this weekend certainly gets them right back in it.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
