The 1964 season was a special one for the Michigan Wolverines.
Bump Elliott had an up-and-down tenure as UM football coach, but as the above Big Ten Network highlight reel shows, '64 was his "greatest coaching triumph."
BTN is releasing ancient highlight reels throughout the offseason. They've already put together clips from the 1952, 1959 and 1963 seasons, all of which were only so so in Ann Arbor.
1964 was a different story. Elliot's team went 9-1, won the Big Ten and beat Oregon State in the Rose Bowl. The Wolverines beat four top-10 teams and finished the regular season ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll. Quarterback Bob Timberlake was named a first-team All-American.
The only loss came at the hands of Purdue — led by Bob Griese — by the score of 21-20.
