Michigan running back De’Veon Smith caused a bit of a stir on Twitter early Thursday morning after he wished assistant coach Tyrone Wheatley well as a candidate for the Western Michigan coaching vacancy.
Wishing @CoachWheat6 good luck on getting the Western Michigan job!

The wording the tweet was certainly a bit vague, leaving some on Michigan Twitter to believe that Wheatley has accepted the job. Smith made sure to clarify.
Yes I hope he gets the job!!

Wheatley would be a good fit for the Broncos if he was offered the position. His ties to the state and ability to recruit Detroit at a high level would bode well. Many believe that he will be a Power 5 head coach at some point and the MAC would be a good stepping stone to achieve that as opposed to working his way up the ranks at Michigan.
So, for now, Michigan still has its running backs coach, but Western Michigan could certainly decide to pull the trigger here.
