The Michigan Wolverines defense had plenty of good Saturday’s throughout the 2018 season, and because of that, four of its starters were named to the unanimous All Big Ten first team defense.

Linebacker Devin Bush, defensive end Chase Winovich, cornerback David Long, and cornerback Lavert Hill were the ones receiving honors. Defensive end Rashan Gary was selected to the second team by the media and first team by the coaches.

- Bush: 79 tackles (38 solo), 9 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks

- Winovich: 62 tackles (28 solo), 4 sacks

- Long: 1 interception, 15 tackles,

- Hill: 1 interception, 13 tackles

- Gary: 44 tackles (20 solo), 3.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss

While Winovich and Bush’s stats look great on paper, you have to turn to the people at Pro Football Focus to realize how good of a year Long and Hill had. Week after week receivers were gaining next to nothing on them.

Here’s the entire list of those selected to the All Big Ten first team defense

Michigan had the most selections out of any Big Ten program.

Josh Metellus was named to the Big Ten second team defense, with Metellus being named to it by the media and coaches. Donovan Peoples-Jones wasn’t left out of the love either, being selected to the All Big Ten special teams third team.

The final award being dished out on Tuesday was to punter Will Hart, who was named the Big Ten Punter of the Year after averaging 47.59 yards per punt.
