David Turnley shares emotional photo and story of Chase Winovich after Peach Bowl loss

Chase was and always will be a ‘Michigan Man’

You can say what you want about Chase Winovich, but there are a few things about the young man that are apparent.

Winovich has tons of love for the University of Michigan, his teammates, and the game of football.

The fire Winovich usually displays ultimately turned to sadness after the game. Winovich will never suit up wearing maize and blue again, and his last game ended in defeat, two facts that must have hit him hard.

Team photographer David Turnley captured an image of Winovich in the locker room after the Peach Bowl loss that really paints a vivid picture.

Chase Winovich walked off the field and gave me a hug, as he did here with his teammate Joe Hewlett in the lockerroom, and said, “Thank you for being my friend through all of these years. I love you. I wish I could have helped bring home a victory but I know that I gave everything I had!”. I said, “ I love you Chase, and it is an honor to be your friend! You inspire me and my family each day. And I am always here for you- I’m not going anywhere!”

Winovich recorded 7 tackles and 1 sack in the 41-15 loss
