Monday was a hell of a day for the Michigan Wolverines.
2019 4-star defensive end Stephen Herron decommitted, Jim Harbaugh gave reporters some...semi-juicy material at Big Ten Media Days (which is on the way from our very own Trevor Woods), and one of the best defensive players on the team made a prestigious award’s watch list.
In the madness that was today, junior linebacker Devin Bush was named to the Butkus Award watch list Monday. The Butkus Award is given every year to the nation’s best linebacker.
Bush was a finalist for the award last season, losing out to former Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith.
In 2017, Bush recorded 102 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 1 interception and 7 pass breakups. He was the do-it-all, speedy linebacker Michigan needed last season, and he is bound to do it once again in 2018 as the head communicator of the defense.
Other Big Ten linebackers named to the list include Michigan State’s Joe Bachie, Purdue’s Markus Bailey, Minnesota’s Thomas Barber, Wisconsin’s Andrew Van Ginkel, Ryan Connelly and TJ Edwards, Penn State’s Koa Farmer and Northwestern’s Paddy Fisher and Nate Hall.
Expect another exceptional year from Bush, and perhaps even a top selection, along with Rashan Gary, in the 2019 NFL Draft if all goes right.
