The Big Ten Nework was in Ann Arbor to cover the Michigan Wolverines’ fall camp, and several storylines stuck out as the teams heads into the 2018 season.
One is obviously the quarterback and offense, but another is the dominating defense with 14-of-16 returning starters.
Two of the returning starters on defense, Devin Bush and Rashan Gary, spoke with the Big Ten Network crew and discussed what will be different.
“A lot more swagger, a lot more confidence, a lot more fun.” Bush said with a huge smile. “We all back, we all came back, we played with each other, got those growing pains out the way.”
Gary reiterated Bush’s comments by saying the teams knows the season’s goals, and to reach those goals they must push each other. One of the defenses’ goals this season, according to Gary, is to be the No. 1 defense in every category
He also mentioned how he talked to Chase Winovich about returning and played a signifant role in his decision.
“I kept preaching to him that the year that we had last year my sophomore year, his junior year, it could be great if he comes back because now we have a year of experience of us both starting and have the ability to be the best defensive end duo in the nation,” Gary said.

Several other players who weren’t starters last year are also stepping up and competing for spots in the rotation. Coach Harbaugh added to that on Monday during his meeting with the press when talking about Jordan Glasgow: “He goes hard every play, he knows his assignment.”
Michigan fans should be very excited for a defense that is more experienced, looks stronger and has more confidence than a year ago and ready to dominate each week.
