CBS selected Bush for the first-team, while Gary finds himself on the second-team. They look to be the fourth and fifth Michigan defensive players on the All-American defense in the last three years. Jourdan Lewis and Jabrill Peppers earned the honors in 2016, while Maurice Hurst made the first-team last year.
Bush debuted last year at middle linebacker, racking up 102 total tackles with 9.5 for loss. He flashed talent in pass coverage, as well, batting eight passes overall and notching an interception against Wisconsin.
Gary emerged after a solid freshman campaign to tally 66 tackles with 12 for loss and six sacks in 2017. The former No. 1 recruit in 2016 is following a similar career trajectory as former top defensive end recruits Robert Nkemdiche (Ole Miss) and Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina).
The Big Ten landed 10 selections on the first and second-teams, third behind the SEC and Pac-12. Gary shares honors on the line with three Clemson Tigers and Ohio State’s Nick Bosa, among others.
Bush and Gary, alongside fellow stars in Chase Winovich, David Long and Lavert Hill, manned the No. 10 defense nationally per S&P last year. The Wolverines return 10 of those starters heading into 2018.
