More evidence hints who will be Michigan’s starting quarterback in 2018

It’s looking more and more like we have an answer at QB.

It’s no surprise Michigan has been quiet about a starting quarterback for the season opener against Notre Dame, it’s been that way since Jim Harbaugh arrived in Ann Arbor. His staff is known to wait until kickoff of the first game to show who won the job.

The quarterback room is loaded with young talent this year for Michigan, including Ole Miss transfer Shea Patterson, who’s had the most game experience among them. He’s become the favorite by many who know what he’s capable of doing on the ground and the air.

If you watch his film, he’s been successful at escaping pressure out of the pocket with his feet and has been working on his timing in the pocket. He’s the one that stands out among the group since the others are more prone to stay in the pocket.

Defensive backs coach Mike Zordich was recently asked about preparing for Notre Dame and mentioned how the Irish’s quarterback is much like “our guy.” Listen below.

Coach Zordich doesn’t come out and say Shea Patterson, but the comment sounds very similar to Shea.

“Quarterback, kind of like our guy, great with his feet, good arm. It’s a challenge,” Zordich said.

From what we have seen and heard, Dylan McCaffrey and Brandon Peters are more of pocket passers, while Joe Milton will need some time to adjust to the college level.

Zach Gentry was asked to explain the strength of each quarterback in a recent meeting with the media.

“Shea moves around the pocket well.”

“Joe Milton throws the hardest ball of all time.”

“Brandon Peters reads a good defense.”

“Dylan McCaffrey, quick release, also improving a heck of a lot.”

A tweet from WTKA’s Michael Spath mentioned a similar update about who’s starting.

I’m not saying the cats out of the bag yet, but it’s looking more likely Shea will be the starting quarterback.
