Michigan’s Running Backs Coach Garners National Attention

NCAA Football: Outback Bowl-Michigan vs South Carolina Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

247Sports just released its 30Under30 list, a collection of college football’s best minds under the age of 30 years old. Michigan’s running backs coach, and son of the head coach, Jay Harbaugh cracked the list. Here’s what they said in their break down:

Jay Harbaugh, Michigan, Running Backs Coach (29): Yes, he’s Jim’s son — but Jay’s done plenty on his own to earn a nod on this list. As running backs coach in 2017, Harbaugh oversaw a room that had three backs rush for over 500 yards. Starter Karan Higdon chipped in UM’s first 1,000-yard season since 2011. He has also been critical to Michigan recruiting one of the top RB classes in 2019.

Harbaugh has worked at a number of stops already in his career, namely at Oregon State with Mike Riley and under John Harbaugh with the Baltimore Ravens — a gig that earned him a Super Bowl ring.

At Michigan, Harbaugh has been lauded for his work developing the tight ends, particularly the Denver Broncos’ Jake Butt. He took over coaching running backs last season in the wake of De’Veon Smith’s departure. Chris Evans and Karan Higdon teamed up to be one of the most formidable tandems in the Big Ten.

With the season only a few days away, you can read up more on Harbaugh here, in 247’s follow-up interview.
