It’s official, Michigan has their new defensive line coach under contract. 37 year old Shaun Nua will be replacing Greg Mattison, who left to become the co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State.
Nua served as the DL coach of Arizona in 2018, and spent 6 seasons as DL coach at Navy (2012-17).
In the press release for the hire, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh gave his thoughts as to what Nua can bring to the program:
“Shaun is a rising star in the coaching profession. He is well-respected among his peers, relates well with the student-athletes that he mentors and brings great passion and energy to his work. We are excited to have Shaun join our defensive coaching staff and work daily with our defensive linemen. Michigan football looks forward to having Shaun, Hilary and their children, Losi, Kelina and Malia, join our University family.”
