Michigan vs. Maryland Preview: How to watch/stream, game prediction, more

Michigan looks for win No. 7 on the year in College Park.

Michigan football looks to keep rolling on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Maryland after last week’s blowout win over Notre Dame. The Wolverines are all but out of the hunt for a Big Ten Championship, but they are still out to rack up as many wins as they can grab and end the 2019 season on a high note.

And that’s what this game provides for Michigan. They have a chance to continue an uphill climb after a bit of a reset at the start of the year and installation of a new offense.

Their opponent? Well, let’s just say that these two teams are going in the opposite direction.

Maryland came out this season all guns blazing in the first year under head coach Mike Locksley, but have started to peter out in the last month or so. In fact, in their five losses on the year, they have been outscored 205-69.

Saturday’s game against the Wolverines figures to be a similar outing.

If last week was all about getting the run game going, this could be the week that Michigan is due for a breakout through the air with the pass. Maryland is the worst team in the Big Ten in terms of passing yards allowed at over 270-plus yards per game. If conditions allow for it, the Wolverines should be able to get just about anything they want offensively.

Running back Anthony McFarland provides some problems, but the Wolverines should have a fairly easy time if they keep him in check.

Michigan wins if: They’re going to win, but continuing their offensive breakout is what you want to see.

Maryland wins if: The Wolverines decide to skip the game and head to D.C. for some sightseeing instead.

A bit of a comedown after last week’s win over the Irish might be in the works, but Michigan would really have to come out and lay an egg to be in danger of losing this one. Up next is a bye week and then Michigan State, so there’s a chance they could be looking ahead, but knowing what we do about Jim Harbaugh and how he approaches each week, that seems unlikely.

There might be a few dumb things that happen in this game that people harp on, but get the win, do it comfortably, and head into the bye with some momentum and a chance to get healthier.

Prediction: Michigan 35, Maryland 13
