Chris Evans was set for a big role in his final season with the Michigan Wolverines. And he still may do that come August, but that is now up in the air.
Rumors had been swirling for almost a week, but the program announced on Tuesday the senior running back is “not a member of the football team at this time.”
“Privacy laws prohibit us from commenting further,” associate athletic director Dave Ablauf said in a statement.
Evans chimed in shortly after the news broke with a message on Twitter, suggesting he could be working his way back at some point.
I am going through some academic issues right now. I’m working through it now. I will still continue my career at the University of Michigan ! #GoBlue

“I am going through some academic issues right now. I’m working through it now. I will still continue my career at the University of Michigan ! #GoBlue,” he tweeted.
Evans in his U-M career has 1,722 yards and 14 touchdowns and 392 yards and two touchdowns receiving. Whether those are final numbers or not for him remains to be seen.
