The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Middle Tennessee State Raiders by a score of 40-21 in their first game of the season.
The game featured impressive deep passes by quarterback Shea Patterson that led to Michigan touchdowns. However, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the offense and Patterson. Although Patterson finished the day 17-of-29 for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns, he held himself to a high standard at his post-game presser, taking into account the fact he fumbled on the first play from scrimmage on a scramble. And during Jim Harbaugh’s presser, he stated the offense played good for its first time out but that there’s room for improvement.
Watch the video below where Patterson and Harbaugh break down Michigan’s Week 1 showing.
Jim Harbaugh on the offensive performance
- “For the first time out I thought it was good, very productive. After the fumble on the first drive, five straight scoring drives, really good. Then we did some things to shoot ourselves in the foot at times with pre-snap penalties and mishandled the ball. Happy for the win, but a lot to coach off of as well.”
- “A lot of the offense that we’ve been practicing we ran. It was all facets of it. The play-action pass, the dropback, the RPO’s, the inside zones, the outside zones. It was a good amount of offense that got called tonight, pleased the way it was executed for the most part. We were pretty good in our alignments, some of them got a little sloppy not lining up in the right spot. Had to call a timeout one time when we were lined up illegally.”
- “Overall, pretty darn good for the first time seeing a new offense. It comes so far from where it was in the spring to now. Keep trying to build on it.”
