Michigan RB Zach Charbonnet earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Charbonnet achieved something that hasn’t happened since 2015.

While Michigan fans likely are still digesting the Army game, some great news for one of their top performers was announced. True freshman running back Zach Charbonnet was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.

Charbonnet has been impressive after two games with 190 yards on 41 carries (4.6 yards per carry) and 3 touchdowns. Charbonnet has also done a great job in pass protection.

This honor has not been given out to a Wolverine since Jabrill Peppers after his 2015 performance against Minnesota.

This U-M offense has depth at several positions, as we’ve seen with a few nagging injuries, but this unit at running back is definitely one of the pleasant surprises, and Charbonnet is a huge reason for that. Tru Wilson hasn’t seen the field much partially due to an injury, but hope the bye week can get everyone healthy before traveling to face Wisconsin Sept. 21.
