Former MSU linebacker, son of Michigan OL coach Ed Warinner, transfers to Ann Arbor

The Wolverines have added a familiar face from a familiar place.

The Michigan Wolverines have added a new member to the football team with an interesting backstory. MLive’s Aaron McMann was the first to report on Monday morning that former Michigan State linebacker Edward Warinner has transferred to Ann Arbor.

If that name sounds familiar, well, it is. Warinner is the son of Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warriner, who is entering his third season with the program.

The younger Warinner was a three-star prospect in the class of 2018 and chose to go play for Mark Dantonio and the Spartans. He played in seven games this past season in East Lansing while primarily playing special teams. Warinner redshirted in 2018 and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

No word yet has been given as to whether he will be joining as a walk-on or a scholarship player, but he does appear in the Michigan directory.

We’ll update this when more info is available.
