Michigan Wolverines redshirt freshman linebacker Charles Thomas has officially entered the transfer portal and is no longer with the team, program spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed to Maize n Brew on Monday morning.
Thomas entered the program as a three-star prospect from IMG Academy in Florida. He was one of Michigan’s top targets at the position in the 2019 class and was expected to battle for snaps at linebacker this season. However, throughout the offseason a trio of true freshman in Kalel Mullings, Cornell Wheeler and Nikhai Hill-Green have emerged as players that appear will have an impact in their first year with the program.
Thomas, who was a former three-star recruit in the class of 2019, did not see the field as a true freshman last season. The Fairburn, Georgia native was the nation’s No. 507 overall player and 26th-ranked inside linebacker. He was no longer listed on Michigan’s roster page as of Monday morning prior to this post.
Thomas is the second U-M linebacker to enter the transfer portal this offseason, as true freshman Osman Savage entered the portal last month.
