It was a wild week of action in college football as seven top 25 teams fell, leaving the AP Poll in a scramble when the dust settling. Six teams who have not even seen action this fall are now ranked in the latest polls including the Michigan Wolverines.
Michigan came in at No. 23 last week and made a slight jump to No. 20 in the poll despite not playing a game until Oct. 24 at Minnesota. The Wolverines are one of five Big Ten teams who made the list of the top teams in college football with Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, and newcomer Minnesota joining the rankings.
The maize and blue face off against all four of the other ranked teams in the conference in their eight-game schedule starting with the Golden Gophers in Week 1.
One of the largest risers was Oklahoma State who put a 47-7 beatdown on Kansas and jumped from No. 17 to No. 10. Another was SMU, unranked last week, now No. 17 after a 4-0 start.
Other newcomers include Virginia Tech (No. 19), Louisiana-Lafayette (No. 23), Iowa State (No. 24), and the aforementioned Minnesota (No. 25).
Texas fell 13 spots from No. 9 to No. 22. They face Oklahoma this weekend who have dropped two-straight and are now outside of the Top-25. UCF is also unranked after being No. 11 last week following a loss to Tulsa.
The top four teams remain the same but with a slight difference. Georgia and Florida flip spots after the Bulldogs crushed top ten opponent Auburn, 27-6. Alabama comes just ahead of Georgia at No. 2, and Clemson remains the No. 1 team in the country with 52 of 62 first-place votes. Alabama received eight votes and Ohio State, despite not playing a game, received two first-place votes.
This weekend will bring more fun as there are four top-25 matchups highlighted by No. 7 Miami at No. 1 Clemson. With two more weeks to go until the Big Ten kicks off their season, we will see if the Wolverines and other in-conference teams maintain their current rankings.
