Maize n Brew has confirmed with several members of Michigan’s 2020 class that the incoming true freshmen will step on campus beginning June 15.
Some of the players confirmed to be arriving on campus that day are linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green, running back Gaige Garcia, defensive lineman Kris Jenkins, safety Jordan Morant, safety Makari Paige and offensive lineman Zak Zinter.
“Yes sir, glad to be heading back,” Zinter said.
Linebacker Kalel Mullings also said he would be going to Ann Arbor “around that date.”
This is a step in the right direction for starting the season on time. The coronavirus pandemic has without a doubt changed everything around the world, including sports. This is certainly welcoming news after what has happened over the last three months.
The next step here would be to get a date solidified for beginning voluntary workouts. The Big XII conference stated voluntary workouts can begin for their football and basketball programs on June 15. Other Big XII sports teams can hold their voluntary workouts on July 1. All Pac 12 sports programs also are able to voluntarily workout beginning June 15.
Hopefully Michigan’s coaches can hold voluntary workouts in a couple weeks when the state restrictions are lifted even more and everyone is back on campus. No set date has been confirmed, but Jim Harbaugh expects mandatory workouts to begin on July 1.
Time will tell, but things are looking promising for college football this fall.
Michigan had the No. 14 overall class in 2020, per 247Sports’ composite.
