Former Michigan Wolverines defensive back Jaylen Kelly-Powell entered the transfer portal back in January, but we went months without hearing where he was heading. His destination was revealed to be the Akron Zips in an Instagram post he sent out, but it was not a typical reveal.

Kelly-Powell, like several other men in the black community on Instagram, posted a message of empowerment in the times that the country is currently dealing with and did so wearing an Akron jersey.

He confirmed the news by updating his profile information.

Kelly-Powell suited up for the Wolverines in 20 career games after being a four-star recruit and the nation’s 21st-ranked safety prospect in the 2017 recruiting class coming out of Cass Tech in Detroit. He split time at safety and cornerback in his college career, the latter of which he played in his final season at Michigan and leaves with seven career tackles to his resume.
