The work continues for the Michigan Wolverines and head coach Jim Harbaugh in overhauling the staff this offseason and it appears another move is in the works and close to being final. According to reports from Football Scoop and the Gainesville Sun, Florida Gators linebackers coach Christian Robinson is expected to join the new defensive staff headlined by incoming coordinator Mike Macdonald.
Robinson — who was with the Georgia Bulldogs as a player during McDonald’s time there as a grad assistant — has been the linebackers coach at Florida for the past three seasons. Prior to that, he spent time at Mississippi State (2017), Ole Miss (2015-16), and Georgia (2013-14) as a grad assistant.
Robinson is considered a rising young position coach who is strong as a recruiter and preaches a fundamentally sound brand of football. Despite his past experience as a linebacker on the field and coaching the position group, he did work with the defensive line during his time at Ole Miss. It remains unclear what this move means for current linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary who is under contract for one more season. Defensive line coach Shaun Nua’s contract expired earlier this week and his status has been up in the air.

Robinson is yet another young assistant coming to join Harbaugh’s staff after the hires of Macdonald and Mike Hart, who will be returning to his alma mater to coach the running backs.
