The Michigan Wolverines coaching staff has been undergoing a major overhaul this offseason, but one departure has come out of nowhere. According to Stadium’s Brett McMurphy, offensive line coach Ed Warinner is departing his post at Michigan with his slot on the staff being filled by former wider receiver and West Bloomfield HS head coach Ron Bellamy.
Ron Bellamy, a former Michigan WR who coached West Bloomfield High School to the state Division I title Saturday, is joining UM’s staff in place of departing OL coach Ed Warinner, sources told @Stadium— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) January 24, 2021
Warinner’s contract expired at the end of the season and while it seemed like he was a lock to return to the coaching staff, that apparently was not the case. In terms of replacements, it would make sense that tight ends coach Sherrone Moore may slide into this new role seeing that he is a former lineman at Oklahoma.
Warinner spent three seasons on Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff before this news dropped on Saturday night. It will be interesting to see what the next step is for him.
