Nolan Rumler, a junior reserve offensive lineman, entered the NCAA’s transfer portal on Friday afternoon, first reported by TheWolverine.com. Rumler is the first player to transfer out of Michigan during the 2021 football season.
Rumler played in one game this year when he was given mop-up snaps at guard in Michigan’s 47-13 win over Western Michigan.
He was a four-star prospect and the No. 174 player in the country in the 2019 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Rumler ranked as the 10th-best offensive guard in the class and fifth-rated player in the state of Ohio.
Rumler is an Akron, Ohio native and was a four-year starter at Archbishop Hoban high school. The two-time team captain was part of a group that went 57-3 during his high school career.
Despite this, Rumler was never able to find his footing at Michigan. He did not see game action in 2019 and played once in 2020 in a special teams role.
Given his redshirt season in 2019 and a paused year in 2020, Rumler could have as many as three seasons remaining of eligibility. It just will not be at Michigan.
