The University of Michigan football program announced on Friday the addition of former Wolverines Courtney Morgan to take over as the head of the recruiting department. His title is Director of Player Personnel.

“Courtney is a Michigan Man through and through,” said head coach Jim Harbaugh. ”His impressive track record will help our program tremendously. I’m looking forward to his fresh perspective and new insights from a recruiting and player development standpoint. Michigan Football welcomes Courtney back to the athletic department and university community.”

Morgan, who played for the Wolverines in the early 2000s, has had a career in player development since graduating from the university back in 2003 with a degree in sports marketing and communications. His latest stop was at Fresno State, where he was the Director of Player Personnel. He also held the same title at San Jose State from 2019-20.

To go along with those stops, Morgan was also the Director of Player Development at UCLA for two years. It was at UCLA where he created and led a course for post-football success entitled “College to Career. He also mentored more than 100 kids with the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Clubs.

“Morgan helped to create a culture of accountability in the UCLA football program, shaping the mindset of players to remain focused on what it takes to be champions on and off the field,” it reads on his UCLA bio. “With a focus on strong character building, Morgan helps players make the best decisions when they are away from the football program that will ultimately help themselves and the team. In addition, Morgan provides players with the information and perspective needed to understand the realities of college football and how to maximize its platform to excel in the game of life.”

Morgan is also the co-founder of the Pure Influence Group, which was founded back in 2017 to “match emerging brands with amazing talent,” according to his bio on his Fresno State page. With the Pure Influence Group, he was a representative for 10 players in the NFL while “assembling traditional and emerging media outlets in television and Internet to increase awareness and expand their client’s profiles.”

To top it all off, Morgan was also the Director of Client Development for Vanguard Sports Group, a company that specializes in contract negotiations and social media consulting with NFL players, among other things.

Morgan takes over for former Director of Recruiting Matt Dudek, who resigned earlier this month to take the same job in the SEC at Mississippi State.
