William Mohan, a former Michigan Wolverine defender, announced on Thursday he has transferred to the University of Tennessee. He spent one season in Ann Arbor before deciding to move on this spring and joins quarterback former teammate Joe Milton in Knoxville.
Mohan, a former three-star prospect out of New York, was a favorite of former defensive coordinator Don Brown. His skill-set made him a fit to play the VIPER position — a hybrid linebacker/safety role — in Brown’s defense, but the new scheme in place is doing away with that designation. A new set of roles and rules in Michigan’s defense made it likely that several of Brown’s former additions may look to play elsewhere.
Mohan played in one game last season, making one tackle in the 49-24 victory at Minnesota in the opening week of the season. The former Erasmus Hall HS star will have four years of eligibility remaining given the free year that the NCAA afforded its athletes in 2020.
