LOOK: Michigan Football adds Ohio State rivalry graphic to weight room

Some fodder for people who don’t believe Michigan takes it seriously.

One of the oldest fan bits in the land of the Michigan Wolverines football program is that the lack of success against Ohio State is due in part to not taking it seriously. After all, the Buckeyes weave success against the Wolverines into the fabric of their culture even after a dominant stretch over the last 20 years.

Michigan is trying to do its part with a graphic added to its weight room that reads, “What are you doing to beat Ohio State today?”

Michigan is currently in a hard reset of sorts with the changes made under Jim Harbaugh this offseason. He and his staff have been accused of not putting the amount of effort it takes into beating Ohio State, which is ridiculous on several fronts. However, it is a welcome sight to see the importance of the rivalry on display behind the scenes.

Harbaugh wants to beat Ohio State. His team wants to beat Ohio State. They have dedicated entire segments of practices over the last number of years to get ready for the Buckeyes. The results speak for themselves, but it has not been for lack of effort. Operationally speaking, they still have a ways to go in cracking that code.

A sign or graphic does not change what has happened, nor is it a remedy to cure all that ails Michigan. But, it is cool to see it pop up in the weight room. Taking it to the field on the last Saturday in November is a challenge in its own right, but the constant reminder of what the standard should be is something that people in that building need to rally around.
