The hit comedy series Ted Lasso is really hitting its stride, picking up four wins at the 2021 Emmy Awards. Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, is a former college football coach who becomes the head coach of a Premier League soccer team despite having zero soccer coaching experience.
Lasso’s attire is inspired by none other than Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who is friends with Sudeikis, someone Harbaugh had on his “Attack Each Day Podcast” a few years back.
Sudeikis explained last year how Harbaugh’s wardrobe became the influence for what Ted Lasso wears on the show.
“The wardrobe that he wears is very simple, modeled after a great guy, a great coach named Jim Harbaugh from the University of Michigan. A fella I got to meet a few years back,” Sudeikis said. “I remember texting him and asking him, ‘What do you wear? What do you wear to games?’ And he broke it down.”
Harbaugh was asked if he has watched Lasso and what he thinks of the show — he told WXYZ’s Brad Galli that he’s a fan.
“It’s absolutely the best show on TV,” Harbaugh said. “It’s right up there with, I’d put it up there with The Rockford Files. It’s that good. It’s the best show.”
Harbaugh said he’s brought some of the ‘Lasso way’ into what Michigan has done this year at Schembechler Hall.
“It’s just so true, it’s just so real,” Harbaugh said. “Some of the lines, the dart scene, c’mon.”
