Week 1 of the college football season is always one of my favorite weeks of the year. You get games starting on Thursday, with a nightcap on Labor Day. And right smack dab in the middle of all of that is the Michigan Wolverines’ home opener against a capable Mid-American Conference in-state foe in the Western Michigan Broncos.
The Broncos, led by Tim Lester, finished second in the MAC West a season ago with a record of 4-2, with their two losses coming in their final two contests against Eastern Michigan and Ball State.
The Wolverines...ya know what. We don’t need to recap 2020.
It’s a brand new season, and it all starts this afternoon in Ann Arbor. Anything can happen, and it’s sure to be a beautiful day for a football game. Let’s get to the important stuff.

Today’s question: How is the new-look defense going to perform Week 1? This will be our first real look at the new defense, commanded by defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. Will the secondary perform better than it did a season ago? Will the defensive line be able to force pressure on the quarterback? If they start off with a strong performance, it could lead to some much-needed momentum heading into a Week 2 showdown in the Big House against the Washington Huskies.
