The Michigan Wolverines opened the 2021 season with a 47-14 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday to move to 1-0. Both the Coaches and AP polls were released on Tuesday following the Labor Day weekend’s worth of games that wrapped up on Monday night. The Wolverines still have a ways to go to get in the good graces of the voters.
The program was unranked coming into the year and will stay that way this week, but did receive 52 votes. Their Week 2 opponent, the Washington Huskies, are also unranked after a loss to FCS-school Montana.
The AP poll is typically the one used more as the gospel until the College Football Playoff rankings are released. This week’s poll has four Big Ten teams included, headlined by the Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 3. Iowa (No. 10), Penn State (No. 11) and Wisconsin (No. 18) round out the ranked teams in the Big Ten.
