Beilein "Not Optimistic" that LeVert Will Play vs. Maryland
Beilein: Caris LeVert did not practice yesterday. "I'm not optimistic for tomorrow (vs Maryland)."
— Brendan F. Quinn (@BFQuinn) January 11, 2016
John Beilein informed the media on Monday afternoon that he's "not optimistic" that Caris LeVert will play against #3 Maryland on Tuesday night. LeVert has missed the last two games with what has been called a "lower left leg" injury that he suffered in the second half against Illinois on December 30th. Beilein added that, though LeVert is experiencing less pain every day, he still didn't practice on Sunday. This is becoming more and more worrisome. LeVert still is in pain two weeks after what appeared to be a slight ankle tweak. That the foot he injured is the one that he has fractured twice in the past two years has to make one wonder just how severe this injury is, particularly since he's now doubtful to participate in what will be Michigan's most important game of the season to date.

De'Veon Smith and Channing Stribling Did Not Travel to Maryland
Michigan announces De'Veon Smith and Channing Stribling did not make the trip for Michigan.
— Jake Lourim (@jakelourim) October 3, 2015
Michigan running back De'Veon Smith and corner Channing Stribling did not make the trip to Maryland for today's game against the Terrapins, according to Michigan's travel roster. The Wolverine's Chris Balas first reported that Smith didn't travel because of his ankle injury, though there had been a positive update from Tim Drevno that Smith would play today. As for Stribling's absence, the media was told that Jim Harbaugh would clarify the reason for that after the game.

S&P+ Projects the Score for Michigan-Maryland
SB Nation's Bill Connelly has released the Week 5 picks and projections by S&P+, which is a computer ratings system that evaluates teams based on play-by-play data and adjusts for opponents. S&P+ gives a Michigan an 86.1-percent chance to beat Maryland and projects Michigan will do so, 34-16. Of course, S&P+ doesn't know that Hurricane Joaquin is on its way.
Tim Drevno Updates De'Veon Smith's Health Status for Maryland Game
De'Veon Smith injured his ankle during his 125-yard performance against BYU last weekend, so there have been questions about whether Smith would compete against Maryland this Saturday. One day after running back Derrick Green said that Smith was practicing this week, offensive coordinator Tim Drevno confirmed on Wednesday that Smith has been practicing and said that he "really feels good" about Smith playing against the Terrapins, according to the Detroit Free Press' Mark Snyder. It's nice to see that Smith is practicing, but there's no need to rush Smith's return this week. Michigan should be able to run the ball effectively with Ty Isaac, Drake Johnson, and Derrick Green against a so-so Maryland run defense. The goal should be to make sure that Smith is 100 percent for Northwestern and Michigan State.
