Keisean Lucier-South's official visit looks to have went well

Michigan hosted their top prospect still on the board for the 2015 class this weekend for an official visit, and it appears that it was a success for both sides.

Five-star pass rusher Keisean Lucier-South (Orange, California) was in Ann Arbor for the Wolverines' 18-13 win over Penn State under the lights at the Big House on Saturday, where he took in the game with some of Michigan's recruited players, including quarterback Alex Malzone, linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. and defensive back Tyree Kinnel.

After the game, Lucier-South was able to meet up with one of Michigan's up and coming players, former five-star defensive back Jabrill Peppers.

Steve Wiltfong of 247 spoke to Kirkland, who said that he and Malzone stayed overnight after the game to aid in recruiting efforts for Lucier-South. ($)

Much has been made about how Michigan's struggles would impact the recruitment of some of their top prospects, but it certainly appears they made a big impression on Lucier-South, who was on campus for the first time.

The Wolverines did about as well as they could creating a good atmosphere for visitors given the circumstances for how this season has begun and the uncertain status of the coaching staff. It is still going to be tough for them to bring in a player like Lucier-South from the West coast, but every win helps, and Saturday's may have been the most important one yet for the Wolverines both on and off the field.

More UTL3 recruiting highlights

Lucier-South's visit wasn't the only thing happening in recruiting for the Wolverines on Saturday night.

Another 2015 commit that was attendance as mentioned above was defensive back Tyree Kinnel (Dayton, Ohio). He was not there on an official visit, but he did tell 247's Steve Wiltfong that it was one of the "best" he has had yet. ($)

There were several 2016 prospects in attendance, including four-star quarterback commit Messiah deWeaver (Dayton, Ohio). It looks like he has already put his recruiting hat on as well, as he shouted out a trio of other visitors after the game including four-star wide receiver Austin Mack and offensive lineman Clark Yarbrough and Ben Bredeson.

This was a big weekend for visiting 2016 prospects. Steve Lorenz of 247 listed those who would be in attendance late last week.

The following list is per Lorenz:

  • WR Austin Mack (Fort Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers)
  • DE Auston Robertson (Fort Wayne, IN/Wayne)
  • OL Ben Bredeson (Hartland, WI/Arrowhead)
  • OL Clark Yarbrough (Woodberry Forest, VA/Woodberry Forest)
  • RB Elijah Holyfield (Atlanta, GA/Woodward Academy)
  • LB Max Richardson (Atlanta, GA/Woodward Academy)
  • DE Lawrence Gordon (Saginaw, MI/Arthur Hill)
  • LB David Reese (Farmington, MI/Farmington)
  • CB Abdullah Yaseen (Oak Park, MI/Oak Park)
  • LB Eric Rogers (Warren, MI/De La Salle)
  • OL Sean Rattay (Toledo, OH/St. John's Jesuit)
  • 2017 ATH Matt Wilcox (Huber Heights, OH/Wayne)
  • 2017 DE Willie Rodgers (Saginaw, MI/Arthur Hill)
  • 2017 ATH Bruce Mann (Bay City, MI/Western)
  • 2017 DB Andre Jackson (Saginaw, MI)
  • 2018 OL Jimmy Bell (Saginaw, MI/Arthur Hill)

Regardless of who coaches this team next season, many of the guys listed above will likely still be interested in the school and vice versa, so a win on Saturday was a nice cherry on top for what was otherwise a cool atmosphere for recruits.
