D.J. Durkin was named the head football coach at Maryland on Wednesday afternoon, leaving Michigan looking for a new defensive coordinator to take his place.
As is the case with all coaching moves, the impact can be felt on the recruiting trail.
Class of 2016 defensive end commit Rashad Weaver (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) tells Maize n Brew that Durkin moving on does not affect his recruitment at all.
"I'm somewhat surprised (he would) leave after one year at Michigan with a pretty good season," he said. "But, I also understand how big it is for him to become a head coach."
Safety commit Josh Metellus (Hollywood, Florida) also told us, "I really wanted to play for him. But things happen and I have faith in Coach (Jim) Harbaugh."
Four-star 2017 defensive tackle target Fred Hansard (Princeton, New Jersey) said, "That's a big move! Michigan will be fine, though."
Other recruits reacted to the news via social media, including recently-committed 2016 defensive tackle Jordan Elliott. Fellow commit Ron Johnson seems to agree.
