Michigan Football Recruiting: 2016 RB Robert Washington commits to Syracuse over U-M, others

The four-star prospect announced his decision on Saturday afternoon.

UPDATE: Apparently it's not the Gators after all. Robert Washington announced his commitment to Syracuse at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Class of 2016 running back Robert Washington (Huntersville, North Carolina) has committed to Florida, he announced on Saturday afternoon in a video interview with Bleacher Report.

Heading into his announcement, Washington named a top six of Michigan, Alabama, North Carolina, Syracuse and TCU.

He is a four-star prospect and the 12th-ranked running back in the 2016 class, per the 247 Composite.

The Wolverines already had two running backs committed in four-star Matt Falcon (Southfield, Michigan) and three-star Kingston Davis (Prattville, Alabama).

One would assume that the Washington decision closes the door on any more running backs in this class, but we know that Jim Harbaugh and company are looking to build depth at all positions, so anything is possible. They tried taking two in 2015, so three in 2016 would not be a huge surprise.

In his junior season, Washington took a career-high 239 carries for 2,233 yards and 27 touchdowns.
