The Wolverines nab the nation's third-ranked tight end in a signing day surprise.

Class of 2016 tight end Devin Asiasi (Concord, California) announce on National Signing Day that he has committed to the Michigan Wolverines.

There is no other way to put it. His commitment is one of the most surprising pulls of the 2016 cycle and a testament to what this staff is able to do on the trail. USC, UCLA and Alabama were the other schools in the mix coming into this announcement.

Asiasi is a four-star prospect and the nation's third-ranked tight end, according to the 247 Composite ranking system.

Michigan has a pair of tight ends committed in Sean McKeon and Nick Eubanks in the class, as well. Asiasi certainly is able to play the position well, but the staff sees him as an athlete prospect that also has the potential to slide to the other side of the football and play defensive end.

The Wolverines surged big time in his recruitment after the dead period ended. When it became apparent they would not land Isaac Nauta, Michigan turned its attention to Asiasi and other prospects and ultimately ends up with him and Eubanks.
