5-star DT Aubrey Solomon commits to Michigan

The Wolverines are off and rollin’ on National Signing Day

National Signing Day has become a holiday around these parts, and for good reason with the high recruits and the “Signing of the Stars” event in Ann Arbor.

Another reason to celebrate comes in the form of 2017 five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon, who just committed to the Wolverines during a press conference at his high school in Leesburg, Georgia.

Solomon is the second ranked defensive tackle, third ranked player from Georgia and 25th ranked player overall in the country, according to the 247sports.com national composite.

The final three school choices for Solomon were Michigan, Alabama and Georgia. Solomon decomitted from Michigan in August of 2016, making Alabama the favorite to land him. But things changed down the stretch and Solomon ended up going to the school he was initially committed to. On Jan. 19, Solomon’s Crystal Ball on 247 had Michigan as a 44 percent favorite to land him.

The 6-foot-3, 288 pound lineman will look to get playing time early on in his collegiate career, much like Rashan Gary did last season. With several key names on the defensive line heading to the NFL, like Taco Charlton and Chris Wormley, there will be a lot of competition heading into the spring game. That is when we will get a good look at what the potential starting lineup will be in September, and truly what this 2017 class is capable of.

The Wolverines now have two five-star players in their 2017 class, with wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones being the other.
