In a sea of big recruits on the sidelines against Wisconsin last weekend, one that Michigan fans should learn the name of soon is 2020 linebacker Ethan West.
The four-star out of Virginia made his second trip to Ann Arbor, after attending Michigan’s elite camp in mid-June. We caught up with the talented junior, who shared his thoughts on the visit with us.
About what drew him to Michigan’s program initially, West explained, “Definitely the rich history it has as a program!”
And once he got on campus, everything was lights out.
“My favorite part was getting to see the atmosphere and catching up with the coaches,” said West. He added the atmosphere in the Big House was, “one of the best hands down.”
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound West said he talks to linebackers coach Al Washington the most, and their “relationship is really good even though it has just begun.”
As we all know, getting the approval of a recruit’s parents can be just as important as the recruit themselves, but Michigan won’t have to worry about that in this case. West traveled with his mom for the game, and she enjoyed herself as well.
“She loved it and was very impressed,” West said.
As for his recruitment moving forward, West said, “Clemson, Texas A&M, Virginia, Duke, Florida and Virginia Tech are the other ones that have stood out.”
However, Michigan fans might not have to wait long to see where he decides.
West said he is ready to make a decision by the end of his junior season, and it looks very promising for the Wolverines. After his visit, Michigan received three Crystal Balls for West, all of them from extremely reputable sources, including national director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong.
Linebacker will be one of the biggest needs for the 2020 class, and pairing West with three-star in-stater Cornell Wheeler would be an excellent start.
