The class of 2020 is a really good one for the state of Michigan. There are athletes all across the state U-M will be in the hunt for until the very end. One of those players resides in the middle of the state — 3-star wide receiver Devell Washington.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Bay City native already holds offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, Kentucky and several MAC schools.
We caught up with Washington, and he said he stays in contact with a few Michigan coaches, including the head man himself.
“I speak to coach (Jim) Harbaugh a lot, (graduate assistant) coach (Roy) Roundtree and (tight ends) coach (Sherrone) Moore,” Washington told Maize n Brew. “We are continuing to build a good relationship.
“I like them a lot. They are honest and genuine. They give me tips on what I can improve on and they always say they like me and the way I play.”
Another school heavily in the mix for Washington’s services is Michigan State. The Spartans currently hold all four crystal ball predictions on 247Sports.
Regardless, Washington is highly interested in the Wolverines. He plans on visiting Michigan soon for a basketball game, and he also intends on attending the spring game.
“I want to get back to campus though. I really miss that atmosphere in Ann Arbor,” he said.
Other than visiting U-M for a basketball game, Washington does not have any other visits planned this winter. He admits he is “just focused on school right now” and he will go on other visits during his high school spring break.
One school that is set to receive a visit from Washington over the spring is the University of Kentucky, while the others will be to “whoever offers me soon.”
With some visits in mind, is there a specific time he wants to make a commitment?
“No timetable yet. I’m just going to be patient and trust the process,” he said.
