Jim Harbaugh was able to convince former Alabama co-offensive coordinator Josh Gattis to not go to Maryland and, instead, sign a contract with the University of Michigan to become its next offensive coordinator.
Apparently Nick Saban was pissed, but when isn’t that guy angry? However, several of Michigan’s wide receiver targets in the 2020 class were quite pleased with the hire.
Here are a few comments from some wide receiver targets in 2020:
Josh Downs, 4-star, Georgia
“Big hire!! The ball will be slung around a lot I’m hoping now.”
With Gattis using #SpeedInSpace all over Twitter, I’m sure it will be (at least a little more).
Devell Washington, 3-star, Michigan
“That’s exciting! (Alabama wide receiver) Jerry Jeudy is someone that I watch all the time. To learn from coach Gattis would be sweet.”
There’s no denying Jeudy had a great season for the Crimson Tide, and Gattis was able to assist in that endeavor. The sophomore had 68 receptions for 1,315 yards and 14 touchdowns. If Gattis can make that a reality for Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins or Tarik Black, the offense can really skyrocket in 2019.
Ian Stewart, 3-star, Michigan
“Huge pick up, can’t wait to meet him!”
Stewart is expected to visit U-M sometime this month, so he will be able to get to know Gattis more personally when that visit comes.
Needless to say, Michigan players, fans, commits and recruiting targets should be excited about Gattis now being on the coaching staff. He is a great recruiter, as shown in his recruiting profile on 247Sports, and has developed some great receivers. This is a big win for Michigan both on the field and off the field.
