2020 3-star safety Xavion Alford received a call last Friday morning from a coach he is very close with — Michigan safeties coach Chris Partridge.
Partridge called him to share some good news: Alford was receiving a scholarship to play for the University of Michigan.
Maize n Brew caught up with the Pearland, Texas native to chat about his offer, interest in the program and his bond with Partridge, which happens to be a strong one despite them only meeting in person once.
“Close,” Alford said of his relationship with Partridge. “We both know football and it’s always good talks. Even about everyday life. It’s just natural.
“Me and coach Partridge have a very close relationship and we met once. Hope to see what the future holds.”
The 6-foot, 184-pound safety has a growing list of offers from schools like LSU, Nebraska, Indiana, Oregon, Purdue, Oklahoma State, TCU, Utah and more. He is also getting interest from Georgia, Texas and Texas A&M.
When it comes to picking his future school, Alford wants it to be nothing short of perfect.
“I want it to be home,” he said. “I want a close relationship with the coaches, and want to come in and make an impact early. Also, I want a school that will take care of my life after football.”
Alford intends on visiting Michigan’s campus during his high school’s spring break. So what is it he is exactly looking forward to seeing once he visits Ann Arbor?
“Just want to get know the coaches, the campus and the environment,” Alford said. “I’m sure I’ll be back up more times after that.”
Alford said he is hoping to have a list of his top schools out in the next two or three months. Does he anticipate Michigan being on that list?
“Yes, I do,” he said.
Alford also hopes to have his recruitment wrapped up by “next year around this time.”
