Not many prospects from the state of New York come play for the University of Michigan, but that trend may change in the 2020 class.
New Michigan defensive coach Anthony Campanile extended an offer to 2020 New York linebacker Cullen Coleman on Tuesday. He announced the news on his Twitter page.
Very honored to have received an offer from the University of Michigan!! Big thanks to @Coach_Campanile for allowing this to happen. @lohudinsider @BrianDohn247 @KDJmedia1 @247recruiting @TheOpening @UMichFootball #GoBlue pic.twitter.com/MRfp3mTnBi

Coleman spoke with Maize n Brew shortly after the offer was announced.
“I found out about it (Tuesday) after school when my coach informed me over the phone,” Coleman said. “It was very unexpected but I was very happy to receive the news.”
A big reason why Coleman was offered by Michigan is because of the aforementioned efforts of Campanile, the only U-M coach Coleman has spoken with up to this point.
“(Campanile) is really cool. I’ve only had one conversation with him where we were able to introduce ourselves and he asked me a few questions,” Coleman said.
Next up on Coleman’s itinerary is a trip to Ann Arbor. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder from Rye, New York has yet to visit Michigan’s campus, but is hoping to do so soon.
“I would love to visit Michigan as soon as possible,” he said.
Other schools keeping in touch with Coleman include Syracuse, Vanderbilt, UConn, Wake Forest and Army. Those schools, along with Michigan, will have to show Coleman they can provide him with what he wants out of his future school — “good academics and a football program I will be able to fit into well.”
Coleman intends on releasing a top list at some point, but he is not sure when that will happen.
