With the early signing dates for both basketball and football coming up very quickly and the big rivalry games approaching, recruiting news is picking up lately. We’ve got updates on both sports as the head coaches try to put the finishing touches on their respective classes, so let’s get to it.
2020 four-star TE target changes plans again
The Theo Johnson recruitment has been a rollercoaster so far, with shifting visit plans and decision dates. The latest update was Johnson would be taking his final official visit to Michigan this weekend, then decide the following Monday.
But according to 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, that has changed once again ($). Johnson will still be in Ann Arbor this weekend for an official, but will be pushing back his decision date to an undetermined date. Johnson said he may want to have in-home visits with the coaches before making his decision and commit before the early signing period.
This is considered a positive update for Michigan, as it seemed likely Johnson would pick Penn State following this last visit barring something happening. But by pushing the date back, it shows Johnson has reconsidered and is maybe more open to what Michigan has to offer this weekend. Either way, this is still shaping up to be a wild finish.
Top 40 SG receives offer
After 2020 guards Moses Moody and Nimari Burnett chose schools other than Michigan, Juwan Howard needed to expand the board at the guard position. Instead of settling for shifting his sights down the rankings list, Howard stayed with the elite prospects and offered Adam Miller, the No. 31 player in the country and No. 7 shooting guard on Tuesday.

It will be interesting to see how far Howard can get with Miller given the late offering. Miller has already set his decision date for Nov. 21, with in-state Illinois seemingly the leader. However, Miller also said he’d be visiting campus this weekend, before deleting the tweet and just saying he received an offer.
If the visit does materialize, Michigan definitely has a shot here. Miller plays on the same AAU team as Howard’s son, so there is an existing relationship. We’ve seen Howard can step in to recruitments quickly and get results, but this would be a major coup if he pulls it off.
Michigan offers three-star teammate of current commit
During the bye week, Josh Gattis and Jim Harbaugh were busy in California trying to convince blue chip quarterback CJ Stroud to choose Michigan. While they were out there, they had the chance to visit JSerra Catholic, home of four-star tackle commit Jeffrey Persi, and his 2021 linemate Ross Maseuli.
The offer clearly meant a lot to Maseuli, given his comments while speaking with The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($).
“I was informed by my coach that I was offered after the head coach for Michigan came by,” Maseuli said. “I was extremely happy and started to cry inside. When I got the offer everything in my mind just shut down in disbelief. I have worked hard for this and now dreams are starting to come true. This means a lot for me to get a big school offer such as Michigan.”
Those strong words definitely indicate Michigan will be a strong contender for Maseuli, who also holds offers from Arizona and Fresno State at this point.
That wraps up this week’s Wednesday Recruiting Roundup. Come back to Maize n Brew soon to get the latest updates in Michigan football and basketball recruiting.
